Cahir, Co. Tipperary is pretty well known, but apart from Cahir Castle, which is a wonderful attraction, a lot of people from outside the town don’t know what things to do in Cahir – and there are plenty of choices. We’ll go through just a few of them here.

Things to do in Cahir

The wonderful town of Cahir is located just off the M8, at exit 10, in south Tipperary. As we’ve said, and most people already know, it is home to the spectacular Cahir Castle, which makes it a regular stop for buses touring Ireland. The exceptional picture of the castle above is hanging in The Pod in the Lazy Bean Café.

There is much more to the town than just the castle. There is also the beautiful Swiss Cottage just outside town, fishing on the river suir and walking in the GalteeKnockmealdown and Comeragh Mountains. The world famous Mitchelstown Cave is also close by as are The VeeGrubb’s Monument and Bay Lough in the Knockmealdown Mountains. If you are interested in Ireland’s long and illustrious past you can also pay a visit to Athassel AbbeyMolough Abbey, the Rock of Cashel and Hoare Abbey.

If you need to relax for a little time then you can visit the Cahir Sensory and Mobility Garden, just a short walk from the Lazy Bean Café (just beside the Protestant church).
